Don't quit just yet!

Before you break up for good

with your romantic partner, realize what's going on at a deeper natural level. The "seven year itch" arrives about the time you naturally yearn for a greater return on your emotional investments. You hit the "autumn" of your relationship cycle. Nature compels you to attend your neglected self-needs.

Your social needs will have to wait. Just because you need to winter in solitude for a while doesn't mean the relationship is over. Endure this natural shift and your relationship can rebound much stronger in its upcoming spring.

Your natural 'focal cycle'

Anankelogy identifies how you must shift your focus on different needs as they arise. This 'focal cycle'

  • Prefocal: A need gradually comes into your awareness.

  • Focal: A need takes center stage to be addressed.

  • Defocal: Once addressed, it slips from awareness.

  • Nonfocal: Once resolved, it drops from awareness.

Until evoked again. Rince and repeat.

As your self-needs resolve in your personal winter, your less addressed social needs "prefocal" in your relational spring. Nature ensures you focus on each set of needs in their proper season. To ensure the wellness of your psychosocial balance.

Recognize the season you're now in

The Western mindset generally assumes your relationships progress in a linear fashion. While moving forward in a linear direction, anankelogy appreciates how your relationships also cycle around in familiar seasons of growth.

You likely don't anticipate your relationships' cyclic pattern. You may be surprised by feeling passion one moment and then disappointment soon after. Let this tool's indigenous appreciation of cycles help you reconnect with the nature within.

Reconnect with nature

Everyone has indigenous roots. Look back to your own tribal beginnings to appreciate these cycles. While this learns from some of the pan-Indigenous teachings of the medicine wheel that has seeped into New Age ideas and practices, anankelogy affirms anyone's openness to reconnect with the balancing power of nature in terms familiar to them. But also warns to respect specific tribal peoples by not coopting their culture for one's own personal use. We will let nature balance us in the process.

A 4- to 6-year cycle

default setting: 5 year cycle

This tool is set at the default of a five-year cycle. I learned this from a source that cited a four-year cycle in this recurring pattern. But I observed a five-year cycle in my life. The first person I applied this to, beside myself, also presented a five-year cycle. If the pattern doesn't quite fit you, change the number here until you find it fits your life.

Optional 25 items

You don't have to answers any of these items for the text to automatically fill in below. If you do answer all 25 items, the text for your current cycle changes accordingly.

Click on each white field and select the best option from the drown list. Indicate how true each item applies to you.

Then scroll down to the current season you are in. This speaks directly to your current psychosocial orientation, which informs your political outlook.

How well you can resolve your self-needs relative to your social needs affects your political outlook.

The more you can resolve both on par with each other, the less less emotional strain. You either enjoy psychosocial balance, or suffer some kind of psychosocial imbalance.
